The Young Parents Program (YPP)
..is a free service for young pregnant and parenting families (up to age 23, where the age of first pregnancy was 19 years or under) living in the Greater North Brisbane region.
At YPP we can provide support through our Pregnancy and Parenting groups where families can meet and connect with other young parents and learn from each other as they navigate pregnancy and parenthood together.
Groups are also an opportunity to access information and professional support from a variety of services including midwives and child health nurses.
The YPP team can also come out to homes or other spaces and meet with families individually to talk about what might be important and work on specific goals around parenting and family wellbeing.
Our service is voluntary and focused on supporting families to explore and be the parent they want to be.
This might involve support around parenting, around understanding your child’s needs, as well as exploring the factors that can impact your parenting, including relationships, financial factors, and mental health.
We can work alongside families for approximately 6-9 months but will review how things are traveling regularly and can be flexible as needed.
YPP groups can assist young families with:
- Antenatal education
- Connecting with peer support and building relationships
- Understanding child development and milestones
- Enhancing parenting skills and knowledge
- Referral and support to connect to relevant services
